“Remember that women have a vital role to play in the world. Our ancients recognized the primary importance of women and gave them appropriate status in every respect. Cultivate humility, which is the hallmark of true knowledge. Develop self-confidence, without which nothing worthwhile can be achieved in life. Above all, have firm faith in God.”

Baba has the highest regard for the role of women, and He once said that the credit goes to the women workers for much that has been achieved by the Sai Baba Organisation, for they have done good service.

In fact, Baba places great importance on the role of women in the home and in society. He says only dedicated mothers can offer to the nation children who will strive for a great future for the country, for they are the teachers of that generation during the first five years of life. He says a good mother is a national asset. He adds that it is women who are concerned about the purity and welfare of the community.

He says truth, sacrifice and peace are predominant qualities in women. Further, that women should develop the qualities of sympathy, compassion, love and sacrifice. He points out that the lives of great women will show they were models of patience, fortitude, compassion and sacrifice. He says that modesty is essential for women, for the modest woman will ever keep within limits, through her innate sense of propriety. Such a woman will stick only to virtuous deeds and behaviour.

It is no wonder then that He says it is sinful to look down upon women. Women should never be slighted or treated with disrespect. Wherever women are honoured, there is prosperity and happiness. On the dowry system, He once said it is very wrong to receive dowries at the time of marriage, that it amounts to a sin. He says that when a well brought up girl is offered to a young man in marriage that itself is a great gift, and so why should one ask for money along with the bride.

He wants women to engage in spiritual, service and educational activities. As to their role, He has indicated His desire that they should take up the reins of leadership and bring peace and prosperity to the nation by leading ideal lives.
